- to encourage the study and practice of journalism and mass communication by Hispanics
- to further employment and career opportunities for Hispanic student journalists
- to be the voice of the Hispanic community on campus
- to encourage students to participate in the different media outlets at UT.
Members participate in a mentorship program with communication professionals, internships, multimedia workshops, professional development and have the opportunity of publishing their work on UTHJ’s website. Selected members are also sent to the annual National Association of Hispanic Journalist convention during the summer, a weeklong opportunity of journalistic workshops and networking with the field’s most influential Latino journalists.
