Why, Hello Spring 2013!

We have survived December 21, 2012. Sadly, that means that we still have to pay off those students loans. Oh well.

I'm here to make your one of your resolutions come true. No, I'm not going to make you exercise. I'm going to give you the power of getting published! How? I have been informed of two great positions that are available!

The first is with Latinitas, a non-profit that empowers young Latinas through media and technology. They are currently looking for students to apply to their Youth Editorial Advisory Board. What do they want from you?

Also, the Horn is hiring news reporters, lifestyle writers, concert/event photographers, weekly bloggers and broadcast journalists. This is a great way to make some side cash and looks great on a resume. Plus, you will be getting published! What journalist doesn't want that? Some cool stuff about working for the Horn is that you get to schedule your own hours, get paid to do what you love, receiving press passes for popular concerts and events, and networking with businesses in Austin. Click here for more information or to apply.

We will be adding more available jobs/positions/internships later in the week! Good luck and APPLY!

New writing/internship opportunity

This is a great opportunity for those of you who are writing assignments for class and are hoping to get them published.  It is also a good news source for Latino issues so if you want to keep up with the latest news sign up for their newsletter.

A leading non-profit environmental organization seeks enthusiastic and self-motivated writer with passion toward Hispanic issues and affairs to draft short-form editorial news pieces for La Plaza (between 500-1000 words). Should have strong writing skills and a background in environmental issues and advocacy. Writer will have the opportunity to regularly interview English-speaking Hispanic health professionals, business leaders, and community leaders on a variety of issues relating to pollution and health, clean energy, global warming, fuel economy, sustainable communities, and other timely environmental topics to turn into editorial pieces. From interviews, the writer will be expected to craft a clear, concise opinion piece or blog in the interviewee’s voice, advocating for environmental protection. Audience for the pieces is general public and/or government agencies and representatives. Writer will be provided talking points when possible, and writer is expected to conduct some independent research on current developments, supporting data, and appropriate messaging. Lead time: 2-4 days. All work done virtually. Interested writers are asked to submit resume, cover letter, and 2-5 page writing sample to Monica Cevallos at mcevallos@deweysquare.com.
